Vandaag heeft Reuters van Apple vernomen dat het nog steeds de bedoeling is dat de iTunes Music Store in 2004 in Europa beschikbaar zal zijn. Reuters heeft hierover een telefonisch interview gehouden met Pascal Cagni, de Europese baas van Apple. Cagni gaf in het interview aan dat de verschillen in prijzen en btw percentages tot nu toe een belangrijke vertragingsfactor zijn.

Wat verder opvalt is dat de aantallen verkochte iPods in Europa ongeveer evenveel zijn gestegen als in de VS, ondanks dat de Music Store hier nog niet beschikbaar is.

There can be no compromise on the ease of use, the depth of the catalogue or the responsiveness (of the Web site),” Apple’s European chief Pascal Cagni told Reuters in a telephone interview. He added that a delay of a few months was acceptable because the store was going to be an important outlet for many years. “This is going to be so important for the future that a few months’ delay is not essential,” he said.
