Op diverse websites verschijnen verslagen van de eerste ervaringen met de nieuwe iMacs met Intel Core Duo processor. Het meest uitgebreide verslag is te vinden bij ArsTechnica.

Geheel volgens Ars-traditie wordt op uitgebalanceerde wijze verslag gedaan van de nieuwe machine, met aandacht voor zowel de algemene gebruikerservaring als benchmarks. De conclusie is grootdeels positief, al zit er wel een flink verschil tussen de prestaties van ‘oude’ applicaties (die nog niet zijn gecompileerd als Universal Binary) en de al omgezette applicaties van Apple zelf:

If you can exist solely or primarily in the world of the iApps (e.g., Safari, iLife, and iWork), then the iMac is a wonderful machine for you. Apple has done an outstanding job porting their own apps to the new architecture. […] Rosetta works as advertised, and that itself is good news. While you’ll see a performance hit on applications like Photoshop and graphics-intensive games like UT2K4 and Quake will be all but unplayable until Intel-native versions ship, Rosetta is good enough for most uses. […] All in all, the iMac Core Duo is an impressive machine. If the rest of Apple’s product line moves to Intel this smoothly, the transition should prove to be a big success.[/textquote] Bij Macintouch hebben ze ook een nieuwe iMac te pakken gekregen en wat benchmarks gedraaid. Ook daaruit blijkt dat de nieuwe iMac bij gebruik van Universal Binaries beter presteert dan de oude iMac. Uit een filmpje dat op internet circuleert blijkt dat de nieuwe iMac in ieder geval een stuk sneller opstart.

Al met al zijn de eerste geluiden over de Intel iMac behoorlijk positief, al zijn de prestatie-claims van Apple voorlopig nog niet gehaald.
