Wie moeite heeft om al z’n muziek, films en software kwijt te kunnen op z’n Macintosh HD(‘s), raakt wellicht nog gefrustreerder door het feit dat de Universiteit van Wisconsin het lumineuze idee heeft opgevat om 35 Xserve RAID’s met ieder 5,6 TB aan boord, in een enorme cluster te parkeren. Yep, dat is dus 200,000 GB aan opslagruimte, 2,75 jaar aan HD- videomateriaal, 25.000 films op DVD-kwaliteit of 323.000 CD’s.

The Grid Laboratory of Wisconsin (GLOW), a partnership between several research departments at the University of Wisconsin, have installed almost 200TB, or 200.000GB, of Xserve RAID arrays. The GLOW storage installation is physically split between the departments of Computer Sciences and High Energy Physics.
