In de nabije toekomst zal Apple de huidige frequentie waarmee Mac OS X upgrades worden uitgebracht verlagen. Dat heeft Avie Tevanian, Apple’s hoofd software ontwikkeling, verklaard op het congres SIIA Enterprise Software Summit. Sinds de introductie van Mac OS X in 2001 heeft Apple drie 10.x upgrades uitgebracht, wat neer komt op een update per jaar.

Tevanian geeft aan dat het huidige tempo gewoon niet vol te houden is.

During a talk at the SIIA Enterprise Software Summit 2004 here, Apple Chief Software Technology Officer Avie Tevanian said, “We’re slowing that (pace) down a little bit…because that’s not a sustainable rate. But you’ll still see us go really fast.”[/textquote] Ondanks deze uitspraken zal Apple op de komende World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) een eerste introductie van de volgende update van Mac OS X geven, genaamd Tiger.
